Nel 1982 gli venne conferito il Premio Nazionale Duchessa di Galliera presso la Galleria d\u2019Arte Moderna di Nervi, riconoscimento istituito per sostenere e valorizzare le ricerche artistiche emergenti in Liguria. Durante questi anni di formazione, Gelsomino esplor\u00f2 la figurazione e i linguaggi citazionisti, attingendo a frammenti della pittura cinquecentesca per interrogare e decostruire i codici visivi ereditati dalla tradizione. Accompagnata da composizioni musicali realizzate in collaborazione con musicisti australiani e con la figlia, la mostra ribad\u00ec il suo costante interesse per una concezione relazionale e interdisciplinare dell\u2019arte.<br><br>A proposito di questa esposizione, il critico <a href=\"https:\/\/giancarlogelsominoarte.com\/en\/2007-testi-critici\/#giuseppe-marcenaro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Giuseppe Marcenaro descrisse<\/a> Gelsomino come un artista che &#8220;<em>si muove come un nomade della pittura<\/em>&#8220;, costruendo opere che attraversano miti e ricordi personali in una narrazione progressiva sospesa in una catartica <em>&#8220;zona d\u2019ombra&#8221;<\/em>. Particolarmente significativa fu la partecipazione alla 54\u00aa Biennale di Venezia del 2011, nella sezione Padiglione Italia \u2013 Regione Liguria, curata da Vittorio Sgarbi e allestita presso Palazzo della Meridiana a Genova.
